Alleghany Recreation offers several youth sports programs throughout the year. Our mission is to provide affordable and equal opportunities for the youth in Alleghany County to participate in recreational programs. We encourage good sportsmanship and behavior from the kids as well as the parents. We are here for the kids to have a great learning experience and most importantly to have fun. Alleghany Recreation depends on sponsors and volunteers for the success of the programs. Sponsors receive an 8″ by 10″ team photo, their name on the team tee-shirts, and their name on all printed material.
SWVA Baseball/Softball League
Baseball and softball are available to children grades PreK-7th. Cost is $30.00 payable at time of registration. We offer T-ball and coaches pitch leagues that are local and will not travel outside the county. Grades 3rd-7th for baseball and 3rd-8th for softball will be in the Southwest Virginia league. In this league they will play other in cities and counties in the region. Some travel will be expected for the kids pitch teams. Games begin in May, with a tournament at the end of the season which is midsummer. If you are interested in being a sponsor for our program the cost will be $150.
Tennis
Keep your children active this summer!
Summer tennis program is held during the summer school break. Time to be determined later. No cost to participate! Tennis activities and instructions are offered for ages 6-16. All equipment is provided!
Soccer
Soccer is offered to children ages 3-12. Cost is $30.00 payable at time of registration. All teams are co-ed. 7 -9 and the 10 – 12 year olds will play against Grayson County within a bi-county league where travel will be required to Independence VA. All other age groups will play only within the county and no outside travel will be required. Registration starts in June when school is out for summer break. Games begin late August. To sponsor a team the cost is $125.00
EQUIPMENT:
Shin guards are required for play. These can be purchased inexpensively at Wal-Mart or any sports store. Soccer cleats are encouraged but not required – they need good running shoes. Shoes with toe cleats are not allowed. NO METAL CLEATS!!
Volleyball
Volleyball is offered to girls in the 3rd-6th grades. Cost is $30.00 due at time of registration. Registration starts in June when school is out for summer break. Games start in August-September. To sponsor a team the cost is $125.00
Basketball
Our basketball program is offered to children in the 1st-6th grade. Cost is $30.00 payable at time of registration. Games start in January and run for 8 weeks. All games, unless otherwise noted, will be played in Sparta. Practice sessions may be at either Piney Creek School or Glade Creek School. Registration begins in September. To sponsor a team the cost is $125.00
