Alleghany Recreation offers several youth sports programs throughout the year. Our mission is to provide affordable and equal opportunities for the youth in Alleghany County to participate in recreational programs. We encourage good sportsmanship and behavior from the kids as well as the parents. We are here for the kids to have a great learning experience and most importantly to have fun. Alleghany Recreation depends on sponsors and volunteers for the success of the programs. Sponsors receive an 8″ by 10″ team photo, their name on the team tee-shirts, and their name on all printed material.
Tarheel Baseball/Softball League
Baseball and softball are available to children ages 8-10, 10-12. Cost is $35.00 payable at time of registration. In this league they will play other in cities and counties in the region. Registration will be the beginning of January – mid-February. Games begin in April. Practice sessions may be at either Piney Creek School or Glade Creek School. If you are interested in being a sponsor for our program the cost will be $150.
T-Ball/ Coaches Pitch
T-Ball and Coaches Pitch are available for ages 3-5, 6-8. Cost is $35.00 payable at time of registration. In this sport there is a possibility of playing other cities or counties in the region. Registration will be in mid April – mid May. Games begin in mid June – mid July. Practice sessions may be at either Piney Creek School or Glade Creek School if needed.
1st/2nd Grade Basketball
1st/2nd Grade Basketball will be available for both grade levels. Cost is $35.00 payable at
time of registration. In this sport there is a possibility of playing other cities or counties in
the region. Registration will be in November – mid December. Games begin in mid
September – mid October. Practice sessions may be at either Piney Creek School or Glade
Creek School if needed.
Tennis
Keep your children active this summer!
Summer tennis program is held during the month of July. Registration will take place the month of June. Cost is $35.00. Tennis activities and instructions are offered for ages 6-15. All equipment is provided!
Soccer
Soccer is offered to children ages 3-13. Cost is $35.00 payable at time of registration. All teams are co-ed. 7 -9 and the 10 – 12 year olds will play against Grayson County within a bi-county league where travel will be required to Independence VA. All other age groups will play only within the county and no outside travel will be required. Registration will begin in July and end in August. Games begin mid-September. To sponsor a team the cost is $125.00
EQUIPMENT:
Shin guards are required for play. These can be purchased inexpensively at Wal-Mart or any sports store. Soccer cleats are encouraged but not required – they need good running shoes. Shoes with toe cleats are not allowed. NO METAL CLEATS!!
Volleyball
Volleyball is offered to girls in the 3rd-7th grades. Cost is $35.00 due at time of registration. Registration will be in August. Games start in mid-September – October. To sponsor a team the cost is $125.00
Basketball
Our basketball program is offered to children ages 8-10, 10-13. Cost is $35.00 payable at time of registration. Games start in January and end in February. Practice sessions may be at either Piney Creek School or Glade Creek School. Registration is November – the beginning of December. To sponsor a team the cost is $125.00
