Where is the Transfer Facility located?

  • Turn onto Highway 18 South at the intersection of Highways 21 & 18 in Sparta. Continue on Hwy 18 for approximately 1 1/2 miles, turn right on Osborne Road, and go approximately 1/2 miles. The Transfer Facility is on the left.

When is the Transfer Facility open?

  • Monday 7a-5p
    Tuesday 7a-5p
    Wednesday 7a-5p
    Thursday 10a-7p
    Friday 7a-5p
    Saturday 8a-12p (Residential trash only)

What materials are accepted at the Transfer Facility?

  • White Goods, untreated or non-painted wood products, scrap metal, demolition materials (concrete, block, rock), fencing wire, recycling materials, general bagged household refuse, construction materials (roofing, siding, sheetrock, etc.). All “non-household” waste (construction materials) will charged at the rate of $75.00 per ton. Patrons who own property in Alleghany County will be billed on a monthly basis for their “non-household” garbage usage. Patrons who do not own property in Alleghany County will be required to pay at the time of disposal when disposing of “non-household” refuse.

I have Virginia license plates, can I take garbage to the Transfer Facility?

  • Vehicles with Virginia license plates will not be allowed to enter the Transfer Facility. Businesses with Virginia license plates that operate within Alleghany County are required to first register their business at the Alleghany County Finance Office, 348 South Main Street, Sparta, North Carolina. Those individuals with Virginia tags that own property in Alleghany County will receive a Solid Waste Windshield sticker that will allow them use the facility. In case of lost or misplaced sticker, a replacement can be obtained at the Alleghany Tax Office, 348 South Main Street, Sparta, North Carolina.
