Mission Statement

The mission of the Alleghany County Department of Social Services is to promote quality of life, dignity and respect for all citizens of Alleghany County through competent and compassionate provision of social and economic services, community education and resource development.

Vision Statement

Our vision is that through excellence in the provision of preventive, supportive, and restorative services children and adults will be protected from abuse and neglect, children will have stable families and safe homes, adults will achieve self sufficiency and independence, and the elderly and disabled will remain in their own homes as long as possible, thus providing a safety net to the most vulnerable citizens in Alleghany County.

The Department of Social Services offers and array of services to the public. Our Income Maintenance Unit is responsible for the implementation of Food and Nutrition Services, Crisis Assistance for heating and cooling, LIEAP assistance for heating, Special Assistance for Adults, Program Integrity, Carolina Access, TANF- Work First Assistance, Health Choice for Children, Carolina Access, Medicaid Transportation Assistance, and Medicaid Assistance. These are all income based programs. Applications are available at the Department of Social Services and can be done through EPASS which is an online portal. For more information regarding these programs you may contact the Supervisors, Stacey Presnell or Kathy Billings.

Child Support Enforcement Services is responsible for establishing paternity, child support orders, enforcement of child support orders, locating absent parents, and interstate services regarding child support. For more information regarding Child Support you may contact the supervisor, Angie Sexton.

Adult and Family Services is responsible for providing Child Care Subsidy, Adult Protective Services, Adoption Assistance, In-Home Aide Services, Information and Referral, Guardianship, Payee Services, Services for the Blind, Medicaid Transportation, and Support Services for those in need. For adult services, including; Adult Protective Services, Adoption Assistance, In-Home Aide Services, Information and Referral, Guardianship, Payee Services, Services for the Blind, and Support Services you may contact Rebecca Jones.

Child and Family Services provide child protective services, foster care for children, information and referral assistance, LINKS services for youth, and foster parent licensing. For more information regarding these services you may contact the supervisor, Leia Crouse.
