Low Income Energy Assistance Program

The Alleghany County Department of Social Services (DSS) will begin taking application for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on December 1, 2022.  Households containing a person age 60 and above or households containing a disabled person receiving assistance through the Division of Aging and Adult Services are potentially eligible to receive benefits December 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022, or until funds are exhausted.  Any household can potentially receive benefits January 3, 2023 – March 31, 2023, or until funds are exhausted.  Telephone applications are encouraged this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Households wishing to apply for this program should call the DSS office at 336-372-2411 during office hours 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Funding is limited.  Benefits are issued on a first come first served basis.
