MISSION STATEMENT
The inspection department is here to insure the health, life and safety of all of our citizens that are dealing with any new construction. We are here to help with the permitting process and the building process to make sure that is goes as smoothly as possible for everyone involved. The planning department insures through ordinances and rules that the development of Alleghany County is on the right path for the future and to protect the investments of the citizens.
The Alleghany Building Inspection Department was established in 1985 with the mission to provide for the health, general welfare, and public safety of you and your family for the citizens of Alleghany County.
The Planning Office works at the direction of the Board of Commissioners to research reasonable steps to protect from damage to the county’s land and water resources, as well as businesses and dwellings. This is accomplished by the preparation, adoption and administration of plans, rules and regulations that help insure steps have been taken to protect our resources against natural disasters, contamination and poor development.
The County Planner is responsible for the administration and enforcement of regulations regarding floodplain management, land subdivision, communication towers, ridge development and watershed protection. Additionally, the office is responsible for providing data, information and professional recommendations to the public and Board of County Commissioners.
The County Planner is available during normal working hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
