Sparta, NC – Alleghany County recently closed on financing for $1,375,000 for renovations at Sparta Elementary School. The financing was provided by BB&T under the Qualified Zone Academy Bonds program (QZAB). The QZAB program was created in 1997 to allow access to very low cost loans for local school construction and renovation.
“The Board of Commissioners is committed to providing the proper learning environment for the students of Alleghany County so the leaders of tomorrow can be prepared for their careers. Educational opportunities support the future of our county,” stated Mark Evans, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. “We will work cooperatively with the Board of Education to help our school system succeed.”
Michael James, County Manager added, “We want to thank the Department of Public Instruction, the Local Government Commission, our good friends at BB&T and Karen Evans, our Finance Officer, for all their help in securing this financing for our school improvements. The County is receiving a 0% interest rate which will save our taxpayers a significant amount of money over the next 15 years.”
