Alleghany County Makes Final Payment on Loan

December 6, 2017

Sparta, NC – Alleghany County today made the final payment to USDA on a 15-year loan from 2002.  The proceeds of the $780,000 loan were used to renovate the former Troutman factory and convert it into the Blue Ridge Business Development Center (BDC).  The BDC currently houses the Alleghany Campus of Wilkes Community College, a small business incubator, and the Alleghany County Library.

“The Board of Commissioners is pleased to make this final loan payment.  The County pledges to be good stewards of public money.  Sometimes, we have to borrow large amounts of money to carry out major projects such as the renovation of the Blue Ridge Business Development Center.  Removing this $73,000 annual payment will increase our financial flexibility going forward,” stated Michael James, County Manager.

“Having the Community College, the Business Development Center and now the Library under one roof has been a wonderful asset for the citizens of Alleghany County,” added Mark Evans, County Commission Chairman.
