Sparta, NC – Alleghany County today announced that Building Inspector Travis Dalton has issued the Certificate of Occupancy for the new County Maintenance Garage. The garage is located at 37 North Cox Street on a portion of the former county library property.
“This new garage will enable the county to perform most routine maintenance of county vehicles, including ambulances, law enforcement vehicles and Alleghany in Motion vans, here in house. This will save the taxpayers money and decrease the vehicles’ down time,” stated Michael James, County Manager. “We already have a certified mechanic working for the Maintenance Department.”
“Our new garage is more than twice as large as the old shop – and much better equipped,” added Josh Greene, Public Works Director. “We have substantially more storage and can now accommodate larger vehicles such as ambulances. My team has worked hard to finish the interior of the building over these last several weeks and I appreciate their efforts.”
FG Dillard & Sons of Sparta erected the metal building while the County Maintenance staff completed the electrical and the interior work. The new garage has several offices and a partial second floor for storage. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
The County Maintenance staff will host a Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting for the public in January. The exact date and time will be announced in the near future.
